If you'd like to enjoy convenient, comfortable, and liberating travel, getting yourself a new car is a great move. To ensure you hit the road worry-free for kilometres to come, you will need to take proper care of your vehicle. This involves ensuring the vehicle is serviced according to the manufacturer's guidelines. This is called log book servicing. The servicing can be performed at the dealership where you bought your car or at an independent auto service shop.

The good thing with returning your car to the dealership where you bought it for servicing is that you can be sure it'll be serviced properly. Therefore, you don't have to worry about voiding the new car warranty that comes with the vehicle. However, taking your car back to your main dealership is not always convenient and/or affordable, so you might be looking to take your car to an independent car service shop for servicing. If this is the route you wish to take, here's what to do to ensure your new car warranty remains valid.

1. Make sure your car is in competent hands.

The first thing you need to look into when choosing an independent shop to service your car is whether the technicians and mechanics that will work on your vehicle are well-trained, experienced and properly equipped for every job. Car service shops with untrained, inexperienced and poorly-equipped staff will not be able to meet the vehicle servicing standards set by the manufacturer of your vehicle. Hence, they may cause you to lose the protection of your new car warranty.

2. Choose a shop that specialises in working on your particular car make and model.

Many independent car service shops can work on a variety of car makes and models. While this brings them more opportunities for business, the quality of car servicing provided may be compromised due to a lack of specialisation. You stand a better chance of ensuring your car is serviced as per the manufacturer's instructions by choosing a shop that focuses on working on your specific car make and model, rather than one that takes on all car servicing jobs.

3. Ensure you get proper documentation for services performed.

Last but not least, make sure you obtain and keep documentation for all of the services performed on your vehicle. This way, you will have evidence to prove that you haven't been skimping on car servicing. With these tips, you should be able to find an independent shop that can service your car just as well as your main dealership would.
